About a year and a half ago we got moved from the 16th floor of 688 Sherbrooke to a building a couple of blocks down the street. Then, a few months ago our unit was merged with a number of other units to form a "Content and Collaboration Solutions," and we were told to move back to pretty much the same office where we used to be back in early 2006. Let's not try to count how much money was spent needlessly on moving us around like that, nor how many "man-hours" were lost in the process -- sometimes illogical things happen because life itself is fairly illogical.
Today, that feat was accomplished, or at least attempted. They still haven't transferred our vlans from the old building to the new one, so we are currently pretty much unable to do any of our regular work. Oh, and the movers have nearly lost my workstation, which put me into high-freakout mode. I do have backups, but getting a new computer and setting it up just the way I like it would have taken me a few days at least, and I have a few important things to finish up before the end of the week. Thankfully, they found it after looking carefully in the truck.
Hopefully, the vlan problems will be ironed out by tomorrow, so things will be able to return to their normal flow. It's in everyone's interest, as I'm away on vacation starting Monday -- going to visit my in-laws in British Columbia. If something isn't fixed by the time I leave, there's a chance that it won't be until January.
At least I get a two-week break after this. I'm not sure I would have been quite a happy camper if I had to work a full week after today's move.
